About Daan
Bach, Parker and Mehldau having a beer on a Saturday evening...
Jazz, pop and classical: Daan Sanders presents raw harmonies and dreamy melodies; from cold winter nights in Berlin, to gentle summer days in Amsterdam. Daan's music is as influenced by the works of J.S. Bach and Brahms as it is by Coldplay and Aaron Parks. His playing forms a journey from ferocious to calm, a mix of intense jazz and meditative sounds.
After living in Berlin for six months to further develop his own sound, Daan released a new EP, The Berlin Sessions, with his quartet in November 2022. The Daan Sanders Quartet sets an atmosphere reminiscent of the rugged playfulness of Kurt Rosenwinkel and the sultry pop covers of Brad Mehldau.
Although the raw sound of Berlin is central to The Berlin Sessions, the quartet is also influenced by the more subtle, classical sounds of Daan's hometown of Amsterdam. In April, the Daan Sanders Quartet performed in the semi-final of the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award 2023 and on June 6, the quartet presented Daan's latest music at the Bimhuis.
With the release of his first three albums, Daan Sanders now has tens of thousands of streams on Spotify. As part of his latest release, Daan was featured in Het Parool with an interview. His piece "Luise" could be heard on Concertzender on 25 February 2023.
Daan lives in Amsterdam, where he graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and was taught by Harmen Fraanje and Rob van Bavel, among others. In November 2022 he played a sold out release concert for The Berlin Sessions in Splendor Amsterdam.
